A three hectare project is being built in Cathedral City, a neighborhood nearby Palm Springs in the Palm Desert. Sunniva, originally a Canadian company, has greenhouses in both Canada and California. This new project consists of a closed greenhouse of 2.8 hectares and a processing area of 7,000 meters, which is fully used for the production of medicinal cultivation.

Because of the closed greenhouse there is no supply of outside air, so no insects, residues and / or use of pesticides, with clean cultivation as a result. In addition, there is no air emission, as a result of which the environment is not hindered by the production of the greenhouse.
The JSK cooling installation makes this closed cultivation possible. The JSK absorbs warm air from above the crop. After it has been cooled by the battery, the cooled air is blown out under the crop. Thanks to the well-balanced method of blowing out, the cooled air is evenly distributed: The air that flows around the crop is uniform, with an uniform distribution of the climate in the greenhouse as a result. This, combined with the control of the relative humidity and temperature, means that there is complete control of the climate in the greenhouse.

In addition to the design and installation of the JSK cooling systems, Certhon is also responsible for the entire greenhouse construction, equipped with double screen and covered with diffuse Smart glass ™. Smart glass ™ is a special type of glass with which Sunniva can use the power of the sun (which shines almost 365 days a year) as an energy source.

The greenhouse consists of eight growth departments, whereby a department can be harvested every week. Because of this arrangement of the greenhouse, the circulation of the cannabis plants is optimal. With the addition of the JSK refrigeration systems Sunniva can run more controlled, higher quality, faster and more production. Duncan Gordon, Operating Officer of Sunniva, calls the greenhouse ‘a state-of-the-art Dutch greenhouse’ and ‘the Rolls-Royce of all greenhouses’.

A lot of pesticides are used in the medicinal cultivation, which are harmful for consumption. Sunniva wants to tackle this problem by building greenhouse installations that meet the cGMP standards (Current Good Manufacturing Practice). These standards provide a technologically advanced facility in which safe, cheap and high-quality products will be grown on a large scale. In addition, the construction of the greenhouse also brings other social benefits: The greenhouse offers employment to 150-200 people. Beside, investments are made in social purposes, such as the fire brigade and the construction of new roads. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2018.
