Growing, harvesting and processing vegetables in one and the same location

Vegetable processing companies

There are numerous advantages to growing, harvesting and processing vegetables at one and the same location. It facilitates delivery of the freshest products possible, with a longer shelf life thanks to a fast processing time and vastly reduced transport movements. Lean production translates into an extremely short supply chain, reductions in product loss (waste) and stocks, and enhanced delivery reliability. This enables the processor to constantly supply a product that satisfies the consumer’s demands – and which is always delivered on time. The product is free from pesticides, immediately fit for consumption and grown in an extremely sustainable manner. The end product is the most crucial aspect of the entire cultivation process, in which taste, quantity and quality are key factors.

Fully controllable environment

When growing vegetables in an indoor farm the end product, which is grown in an environment that is not in any way influenced by exterior conditions, can be controlled down to the smallest details. As a result, vegetables grown in an indoor farm are always:

• Available on a year-round basis;
• Of a uniform and consistent quality (shape, taste, nutrient value);
• Suitable for consumption immediately after they are harvested;
• Adjustable to consumer demand by influencing the lighting;
• Guaranteed a longer shelf life and a low bacteria index.

Extremely sustainable

Thanks to the greatest possible reduction in the use of raw materials and fossil fuels, cultivation in an indoor farm is an extremely sustainable process. This is due to the following factors (among others):

• Minimal use of water thanks to recycling;
• Efficient energy consumption thanks to the use of LED lighting;
• Reduction of the CO2 footprint thanks to short transport distances;
• Possible reuse of excess heat.

  • Deliscious, lettuce - Deliscious uses its multi-tier cultivation system as a cultivation concept for lettuce grown on a root ball under LED growth lights. This method allows Deliscious to raise its own lettuce varieties in just a few weeks. Thanks to the new cultivation system, the efficient production of lettuce crops can be achieved all year round with a uniform level of quality and reliability.
  • Fresh Care Convenience, lettuce - At the Staay Food Group indoor farm all natural circumstances are simulated in such a way to guarantee the delivery of a superior product. This, in combination with the minimal consumption of water, the energy-efficient use of LED lighting and year-round production, enables the group to produce at least 100 kg/m2 of lettuce each year.
  • Le Jardin de Rabelais, tomatoes - Tomato grower Pascal Delahaye grows its tomatoes in a SuprimAir greenhouse equipped with LED top lighting. The use of LED top lighting transforms the SuprimAir greenhouse into an ultra-modern greenhouse with a relatively low energy consumption and an ideal climate, all year round. The application of screening cloths ensures the efficient and smart use of sunlight and enables Le Jardin de Rabelais to fully control the closed environment.
